At Object’s first ever virtual workshop, Dr. Andra Blomkalns, Chair of Emergency Medicine at Stanford, shared her stories from the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic. People from all over the country participated in Object’s final workshop of the school year. During the event, Dr. Blomkalns taught girls about COVID-19, the conditions on the front lines, and the role that confidence plays in learning to adjust to unusual situations.
Dr. Blomklans repeatedly stressed the importance of social distancing, not only for the safety of oneself but for the safety of others. She also explained many of the ways that one can prevent getting the virus.
Here are the 3 takeaways from Dr. Blomkalns talk:
“The need to continue learning and be curious is very important, especially when unforeseen circumstances like the coronavirus pandemic arise. ”
Her team at Stanford Medicine has had to adjust many of their policies and procedures in order to cope with the outbreak.
“In order to become successful, you must do what makes you happy. ”
“Confidence can be cultivated and sometimes forced if necessary, but certainly something that can be learned over time.”
Stay safe, everyone! Object wants to thank all of the front line responders that are helping us get through the pandemic. This workshop is the final workshop of the 2019-2020 academic year. We look forward to seeing you again in September, hopefully in-person!
